Valeria Cavestany spends her life between  – Spain and the Philippines, born to a Catalan father and Filipino mother in Barcelona. Working with different medium – watercolor, sculpture, paint, multimedia – she supports her life-premise of inquiry, and her reference to Friedrich Schiller’s view on aesthetics with the unsettling power of surprise and transformation.

Her artistic vocation began in her studies on Textile Design in Escuela de Diseno Texil in Barcelona .

She studied  Chinese painting in Manila a degree in AB Asian History in the University of the Philippines in Diliman .

A pivotal point in her exhibiting career is her solo show Kula Kula Kulay in 1999 at The Drawing Room, Manila. A radical change in subject, medium and concept can be observed in the mix of traditional Filipino heros and personal muses, and the use of Chinese ink in obsolete fax paper. Installation, likewise, became crucial in formulating her series.
